As NRA Certified Instructors, our classes meet the training requirements for obtaining a Concealed Weapons Permit (aka CCW) in Arizona. A.R.S. 13-3112(N)(1), para. N. 1.
Even though Arizona does NOT require a permit to carry open or concealed (with certain age and other restrictions), CCW permits are still available and issued by the Concealed Weapons Permit Unit of the Arizona Department of Public Safety for purposes of reciprocity with certain (not all) other states or for carrying firearms in certain regulated places. If you have a permit the process of obtaining a background check when you purchase a firearm is streamlined.
Following is a link to AZ Dept of Public Safety with info on obtaining your CCW permit and required documentation to include with your application: https://azdpsccw.permitium.com/ccw/start
Following is a link to download an application: https://www.azdps.gov/sites/default/files/2023-11/07202-CCW_Permit_Application_8-29-22.pdf and file by mail. Attach copy of your Prescott Firearms Training class certificate. Will need to include two copies of fingerprints which can be done at the County Sherriff office, Prescott location. Fingerprinting is available on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 1:00 to 4:00 pm. The Prescott office currently has the fingerprint forms available. Application can also be done online. See above link to AZ Dept of Public Safety for more info on filing online.
There is no shooting, or proficiency testing required to obtain an AZ CCW permit. While we don’t feel that law-abiding citizens should be legally required to obtain training in order to exercise a constitutional right; we do believe it is important to have at least a basic knowledge of and proficiency of gun safety and shooting fundamentals.. We would recommend our "Introduction to Gun Safety and Shooting Fundamentals (Part 1)" and "(Part 2)" for newer gun owners, or those needing a refresher.
For those that want to train beyond the basics, our classes, from Introduction to Advanced are designed to build a gradual progression of knowledge and gun handling skills to become a safe, competent, responsible gun owner. Each class builds upon the previous class., with an emphasis on defensive use of a handgun..
We also believe it is important to become familiar with Arizona gun laws. as well as laws regarding use or threatened use of deadly or physical force, self-defense, standing your ground ("Castle Doctrine") and other gun related laws. Below are some of the more relevant laws. Be sure to read the actual Arizona Revised Statutes (A.R.S.) rather than other online sources (i.e., blogs, copy and paste or non-attorney interpretations, as laws do change and what you read online and rely on, may be outdated or incorrect. If not the actual A.R.S. laws.
